Caroline 03:38
I left my home, became a stranger I left my home, for Caroline I left my home in certain danger When I return I don't know just what I may find When I'm gone I want to see the Eiffel Tower Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, and Big Ben I'll bring my camera just to make sure I remember Close my eyes, breathe deep and go there once again I left my home for education I left my home to be a learned man I left my home for foreign nations When I return I'll tell you all about those lands

Oh, No! 02:53
As I roll in, it's half-past ten There's no one to greet me Blue-eyed stains, no time to change The grief and the glory Oh, no! What have I done? Empty spaces hide behind blank faces We're just painting by numbers Fighting the dawn, again we're both pawns Just two working class lovers Oh, no! What have we done? Lend a hand to a helpless man A meal and a blanket Come to find all he wanted was wine And you let him drink it Oh, no! What have you done?

Stagecoach 03:30
Looked at the clock: quarter past three What in the world is happening to me? It’s well past time I should be out milking cows But all I can do is think of you now Bankers and lawyers and highwaymen What can they offer, more money than sin? What can I offer but love? Looked at the clock: half past nine What in the world could be keeping you this time I saunter to bed, my eyes are on your empty nightgown All I can do is think of you now Bankers and lawyers and highwaymen Some rob by stagecoach, some with fountain pen You stole my heart once again

I'd like to think I'm better than I am I want to be much more than just a part of god's plan I'd like to think I'm better than I am I'd like to think I'm better than you But I've got the same vices that poison you all through I'd like to think I'm better than you The truth is I just do what I am told Most times I find that I can't even do what I know is right for me I'd like to think I'm better on my own But when I'm cooking for myself my supper burns to stone I'd like to think I'm better on my own I'd like to think I'm better when in town But my eyes grow wide in the countryside with the red sun rolling down I'd like to think I'm better when it town The truth is I just do what I am told Most times I find that I can't even do what I know is right for me I'd like to think I'm better above ground But uncertainty clings to me with this whole world crumbling 'round I'd like to think I'm better above ground

Olive Green 04:04
In the time way back when I was just a ranch hand I dreamt one day the homestead would be mine With no gun yet on my hip, Nor no hair on my upper lip I had no idea that day I'd meet my bride On the twelfth day of July I took my colt out for a ride Hiyo Silver galloped right out of his shoes So I hitched him to a sycamore As I hurried on my way To the blacksmith, she could make me four anew And I saw her sitting there In a dress of olive green Hammering away at steel hot as the sun The sparks weren't from the anvil They were flying from my heart And I knew right then that I had found the one Slowly I approached A lump was forming in my throat It felt just about the size of San Jose I attempted a "Hello" But all that came out was a groan And when she looked at me I fainted straight away When I came around I thought I had surely drowned She had poured a pail of water o'er my head I watched as her concerned look Into amusement turned And I summoned all my courage and I said: I saw you sitting there In your dress of olive green Hammering away at steel hot as the sun The sparks weren't from the anvil They were flying from my heart And I knew right then that I had found the one Well she said back to me You're no more than seventeen But there's something in your eyes that's more mature I have never loved another Since my husband met that train But for you I'll give it one try more I saw you standing there Tear-filled eyes of olive green On our wedding in July hot as the sun Watched the señoritas dancing As the mariachis sing "Cielito lindo," darling sweet one I saw you sitting there In your dress of olive green Hammering away at steel hot as the sun The sparks weren't from the anvil They were flying from our hearts And I knew right then that I had found the one

Twas a bicentennial celebration Jubilation had enveloped the crowd Two hundred years of hard work and high spirits You'd hear few complaints in this coal mining town On our main street, a statue stood waiting For dedicating, under a white shroud With his lantern in hand, and a shovel over shoulder Made of conquered boulders, but that's all forgotten now On the same day, the mine gave way Two hundred men, never heard from again On that bicentennial celebration Desolation is all we've got now As you pass by the Village in the Valley Down a darkened alley, a long since forgotten dirt road Pay your respects to our ghost town once thriving Halcyon surviving in memories alone

In the forest there was a man He had a hook for his right hand How he lost it no one knows It could've burned off, or maybe froze If you see him wave and smile He'll have you over for a while Have some tea with him, bread and jam But don't you ask him 'bout his right hand He was all right for a time He had his temper, had his mind But since the incident he's a changed man When he's reminded of his right hand If he remembers no time to dwell He don't turn green but he might as well In your last moment you'll hear a slam And feel the touch of his right hand

I gazed upon a maiden, let my thoughts of you subside I slipped the ring from my finger as I stared into her eyes I've been living this lie for a long, long time Don't know when this will end All I really need is a friend She said her name was Mary and she looked a touch like you She's had three kids too many, but at this point she'll have to do Outside she steps for a cigarette, "Say, I've got a light to lend" All I really need All I really need All I really need is a friend Marlboro Lights, a case of High Lifes, and a fifth of old Jim Beam I'm just a fool playing the fool's game, and I'm running out of steam I'll stay at home tomorrow Or at least I always intend All I really need All I really need All I really need is a friend

Grant's Farm 04:20
Received a letter from the post today Gotta move my house for a railway The return address was the Oval Office Ulysses S. Grant signed the contents to dismantle The time has come to do what must be done To give Grant a piece of my mind I'll risk life and limb so I can bury him In a place no one can find With my cabin razed logs lie in disarray When I get an idea that shakes me down to my foundation With my cabin's bones I will make Grant atone By building a raft and sailing down the Mississippi Grant's Farm lies ahead, my flintlock's full of lead A gift to the commander-in-chief My revenge in hand this pauper makes his stand A bullet for him and then one for me

Guiteau 04:11
It's ten o'clock in the morning At noon I'm set to hang But before I swing I have to sing This melody to send me on my way I'm going to the Lordy Glory Hallelujah! I saved my party and my land For that I am so glad But they murdered me for it I can't comprehend I thought 'My country 'tis of thee' I'm going to the Lordy Glory Hallelujah! What will I do when I get there? I guess that I will weep no more There's no poverty, insanity to reckon This patriot sees all friends no foes I'm going to the Lordy Glory Hallelujah!
