Soft Hands 04:08
I can’t wait to get back, my hands are getting soft from the city Sitting in skyscrapers idly just twiddling my thumbs They’ll build their fires again, and I know that I’ll be needed But for now, I’m crossing off the days, waiting for spring to come Buses ain’t driving themselves, yet, but we all gotta get somewhere Transportation to the ranger station you know it ain’t free I got a brown bag of bribes and two days away from working So grab a six pack and a road map and babe, come on and ride with me I took my time making up my mind Second guessing every step that I took Tip-toeing ‘stead of going never leapt no matter how long I looked Searching starboard and port, trying to chart my course But my map’s so fucking incomplete To fill it in I threw my caution to the wind and started moving my feet This day’s as long as a month, but I bet the sun is fleeting In a week or so I know we’ll see the stars again Until the day that I die, every August I’ll be grieving I take a look to the sky and I’ll say goodbye to what could have been

White Crown 02:56
Good morning my friend, I can’t see ya but I hear ya I’m happy to know you made it through this short night I’m walking alone, I don’t mean to disturb ya I know if I get too close, you’ll surely take flight It’s mid-afternoon, your song it stays with me I’m whistling your tune long after you’ve gone The sun’s shining bright and the water lays still now The clouds in the sky cast no shadows at all The day’s getting on, the flowers are blooming The mountain reflects upon the day, so do I I have one last request of my white-crowned neighbor Once more sing your melody and I’ll bid you goodnight

It’s high time that I need a resupplying Of dry goods and good times This one horse town has been getting me down I gotta drive a paved road with lines My bags are packed and I’ve counted my stacks And it’s seven hours ‘til sundown I’m gonna kick up dust in this bucket of rust When I’m Fairbanks bound She’s going to the city gonna get real pretty Or at least as fine as Fairbanks can She’ll get her black hair styled at the only joint for miles And then she’s gonna see her man When I picked her up that night, her face was snow white And her mouth was screwed up in a frown Until she laughed as we stared at her blown-out hair When we were Fairbanks bound It was only two days but at least we got away And I don’t know how we fit it all in The Econoline is filled and we’re recalling our thrills With tired eyes and weary grins For weeks and years I hold these memories dear As I think about the friends I found Spinning yarns about the Marlin’s charm When we were Fairbanks bound
4.
Bush Pilot 03:21
Sitting on my front porch, watching the clouds roll in Wishing I was up there, riding on the wind Jimmie Rodgers had his freight trains, but hoboin’ ain’t the same As flying higher than the spires, a mile above the rain Watching the bees and birds, makes me feel at home Like a sailor smelling the sea when she’s on the shore Looking down from up above shows me what it means I hope your passion finds you and in it you believe If I was a bush pilot we’d travel near and far And everywhere we’d go we’d find more of who we are We’ll touch down when we have to and take only what we need Leave our possessions by the way and see the forests from the trees If a fog should roll in, and I lose my way And if I don’t return, don’t worry, I been saved You can cry if you have to, but let no tears for me spill My body may be empty, but my soul’s fulfilled
5.
“I found the jackpot,” Silas says as he jumps in the mud Forget your clean clothes and your woes wiggling toes feels so good I'll take a shower after the dinner hour, until then I'll be covered in dirt My life sure ain't perfect but I know I could have it off worse Then the sky opens up and we fill up our cups with water so pure and so sweet The two sparrow's song says the rain won't last long so we down our glasses and pick up our feet Cousin Jim's on the tractor, he told me he asked her to the line dance this Saturday night We move to the caller, she hoots and she hollers, "Ma to the left and Pa to the right" It's a perfect day in July The kind of time when you don't have to try Every jump shot goes in, they don't even touch the rim It's a perfect day in July This life that I lead, sometimes I can't believe just how lucky and rich that I am My bank account's thin but I carry this grin as often and as wide as I can A friend told me music's a gift, I should use it to bring far away folks to my front door So I’ll sit here painting with words, common phrasing, and not the least of which four simple chords It's a perfect day in July The kind of time when you don't have to try Every jump shot goes in, they don't even touch the rim It's a perfect day in July

As I look to the skies for inspiration All I can find is a needle spinning Round and round it turns, when am I gonna learn Markings on the map are nothing but stains I’m hopeful the stars, won’t lead to sandbars I can’t help but grin, I’m paid up for my sins Wishful thinking (Is so damn easy) While we begin (To secondguess and) Make up our minds (To abandon) The dream Looking skywards has it’s advantage This age-old advice gives way to my greed Should I caulk or ford, just what can I afford to lose? If the price is right, I’ll take the ferry I met my end, round the riverbend The tide rushes in, I’m paid up, I’m paid up Wishful thinking (Is so damn easy) While we begin (To secondguess and) Make up our minds (To abandon) The dream

about

Fletcher Magellan is releasing new music. In the summer. In
Minnesota. If that doesn’t strike you as odd, consider this: since
the six-piece cosmic country band’s inception in 2014, “Fletch”
has taken a yearly summer hiatus, during which time songwriter
and frontman Cody Fitzpatrick lives in a remote wilderness
lodge in Denali National Park, Alaska with singing partner
Emmalyn Kayser. This year, they’re bringing some of the magic
of the Last Frontier back to the midwest.

Fletcher Magellan’s new EP, Month Long Day, is a collection of
observations, adventures and reflections from Cody’s time in one
of the last true wilderness areas in the world. Album opener “Soft
Hands” finds Cody wanting for spring, and the annual northern
sojourn it brings. Overdriven guitar and cowbell mark the
beginning of rocker "Fairbanks Bound", where Emmalyn (in her
lead vocal debut) sings of a journey from backcountry to "big
city". Country waltz “White Crown” invokes the call of the small
migratory sparrow through whistling, pedal steel and Dobro,
while “A Perfect Day in July” is a toe-tapping romp through the
best parts of summer, led by saloon piano and blues harp.

On 19 July, Fletcher Magellan will release Month Long Day at
The Hook & Ladder Theater in Minneapolis, MN. The event, “A
Perfect Day in July”, will feature a number of special guest
performers, as well as opening sets from DJ Truckstache, Ang &
the Ranch Hands, and Slim Stone.
